How do I get my real estate license? 

The first step in becoming a real estate agent starts with finding out your State's minimum requirement for licensing. You need to check with your State's licensing authority, for example, I live in the State of Texas and the authority that licenses agents is called the Texas Real Estate Commission or TREC for short. For the most part, all the States have pretty much the same requirements:

  2) Take the required pre-licensing courses which can be taken online or in a classroom 

  3)  Take the exam and pass 

  4)  Apply with your State's licensing authority

How old do I have to be to be a real estate agent?

18 years of age or older 

Do I have to be a US Citizen to be a real estate agent?

US Citizen or a Lawfully Admitted Alien/Green Card Holder

Can I be a real estate agent if I have a felony?

The short answer is no! You cannot be a real estate agent if you have a felony especially if it is something revolving around ethics. HOWEVER, it is best that you discuss it and disclose it to TREC and you talk to them before you make the investment in time and money but with my experience, we have seen TREC handle these on a case-by-case basis as well. So if it is something that happened a very long time ago and it does not violate the TREC code of ethics nor is it considered to be a violent crime you might get TREC to be lenient of your application. 

What kind of education do I need to become a real estate agent?

You will need to complete a total of 180 classroom hours to be licensed as a real estate agent

  1) Principles of Real Estate I (30 classroom hours)

  2) Principles of Real Estate II (30 classroom hours)

  3) Law of Agency (30 classroom hours)

  4) Law of Contract ( 30 classroom hours)

  5) Promulgate Contract Forms (30 classroom hours)

  6) Real Estate Finance (30 classroom hours)
